Heat, Hustle, and a Statement at NOLA | GT America 2023

IMG_1673.jpg

The 2023 GT America weekend at NOLA Motorsports Park unfolded under heavy skies and heavier heat, where every session felt like a test of patience as much as pace. The track itself—wide, technical, and unapologetically physical—made sure no one got comfortable.

From the first laps of the weekend, it was clear NOLA would reward commitment and punish shortcuts. The surface offered grip, but only if you earned it. Miss your marks and the consequences arrived immediately—overheated tires, compromised exits, and lap times that quietly slipped away. The field was stacked, the margins tight, and the racing carried a sharp edge from the opening practice through qualifying. GT America thrives on intensity, and that weekend delivered. Battles formed early and refused to cool off. Drivers leaned on experience in braking zones and trusted muscle memory through high-speed sections where mistakes were amplified. There was no hiding at NOLA. The layout exposed weakness and celebrated precision, lap after lap.

Saturday’s race distilled everything the weekend had been building toward. At the front, Memo Gidley made his intentions clear from the start. Calm where others looked frantic, aggressive without being reckless, he controlled the race rather than chased it. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 looked planted, balanced, and brutally efficient, but it was the driver behind the wheel who made the difference.
